EISCAFE SALOESSO 

The ice cream parlour, Eiscafé Saloesso, sits close to the German-Dutch border. Here Dutch interior designer Charlotte te Wierik of interior vitamins has created a modern setting for guests to enjoy Saloesso’s finest ice-cream creations. During the planning phase, te Wierik followed a clear mantra: “Elegant, light and bright, and it had to be a mix of classic and modern!” The straight lines of the acoustic wall panelling in light wood are thus complemented by the curved form of the Thonet 209 bentwood chairs she used in the design.

Four chairs with a moulded seat in the particularly natural Pure Materials version in light oiled ash complement elegant bistro tables. The wood in this special chair collection is only lightly treated, showing off the wood grain to full effect. With its sweeping frame that forms both the backrest and armrests, the chair invites guests to linger. Just like the 214 model, the archetypal Thonet chair, the 209 is built using just six individual parts and, thanks to its aesthetic and technical reduction, it has the appearance of a sculpture. The design is – all at once – elegant, natural and iconic. An absolute classic that, just like chocolate and vanilla, is destined never to go out of style.
