With its bright and reduced rooms, the Virchow & Hellmig funeral home built on the property of a former carpenter’s shop in the spring of 2014 sets new standards in funeral culture. A 27 metre-long atrium with generous window fronts and access to the facility’s different areas – including the Heinrich Kleine Chapel, the core of the funeral home – forms the centre of the building.
In the chapel, interior designer Martine Moineau in collaboration with the Bielefeld Thonet specialist trade partner TICK 50 used a special version of chair S 162 SPF by Delphin Design: the linkable and stackable chairs with brushed nickel frames were equipped with handles on their sides. With backrests in stained oak wood look, they lend a friendly and calming atmosphere to the room. In the condolence area right at the entrance of the funeral home, a lounge chair S 411 from Thonet’s tubular steel collection with black leather cover invites guests to take a seat.
