Stylish Thonet furniture for Marie Nasemann’s new house

Actress and content creator Marie Nasemann has selected pieces from Thonet to furnish her new house and office – a choice that tastefully combines style with sustainability. Her new office features the S 1071 extendable table, two S 64 cantilever chairs by Marcel Breuer and four 118 wooden chairs designed by Sebastian Herkner. In her dining room, two of Thonet’s famous 214 coffee house chairs as well as two 210 R bentwood classics encircle a large wooden table, creating a cosy gathering space.

But Nasemann’s personal favourite is actually the 119 F lounge chair lacquered in high-gloss dark red. It had been on her wish list for quite some time and now takes pride of place in her new living room, where it injects a vivid pop of colour. Created by German designer Sebastian Herkner, the 119 F not only looks chic, it is also exceptionally comfortable. Its wide, gently inclined backrest and deep seat, comfortably tilted backwards, provide optimal seating comfort and serve as an invitation to linger. Tastefully positioned in front of a window, the chair lends an elegant air to the room without dominating the space.

Adjacent to the living room, Nasemann’s modern dining room had to meet a number of requirements: it not only needed to exude warmth and cosiness, it also had to serve as a functional everyday space. On one side of the table sits an apple-green wooden bench and on the other, four Thonet chairs.  Thonet’s famous 214 coffee house chair, developed by company founder Michael Thonet in 1859, is regarded to this day as the most successful industrially manufactured product in the world. Here in the stained black version, it shines as the winner of the German Sustainability Award 2021 in the “Icons” category. The matching 210 R bentwood classic chair, also stained black, could almost be a sculpture thanks to its minimalist design. The chair’s sweeping frame, which forms both the backrest and the armrest, is made of a single piece of solid beech wood and bent into shape.

Marie Nasemann has chosen to use the furniture from her previous dining room in her new bright, high-ceilinged office. The extendable S 1071 table with its minimalist design works just as well in a home as in a stylish office or conference room. Its sophisticated, elegantly curved, chrome-plated frame has been combined here with a simple walnut tabletop. Two matching S 64 V cantilever chairs, also in walnut, sit at either end of the table. This iconic tubular steel model was created for Thonet in 1928 by Marcel Breuer. Its popularity stems from the appealing combination of something new and something tried and tested: the solid wood seat and canework backrest embody tradition, while the frame represents the present and the future. Creating a contrast with the two tubular steel cantilever chairs, four Thonet 118 SP chairs by Sebastian Herkner – two in glazed white and two in olive green – round out the table’s seating. The 118 is a contemporary take on the Thonet principle of making a chair out of as few parts as possible; it pays tribute to the company’s heritage while also setting itself apart. Sophisticated details make this “Offenbach chair” less imposing than its iconic, coffee-house predecessor but all the more elegant.
