Salem on Lake Constance is a resort town famous for its elite boarding school, housed in the castle Schloss Salem. The lively municipality also has numerous cultural attractions, including the new town hall building designed by the architectural firm estudio primitivo gonzález arquitectos. The striking cubic building houses the town hall, registry office, town administration and the public library. Like a ship’s bridge, the council hall sits at the very top of this impressive building, and is furnished with Thonet chairs. This location not only offers a sweeping view of the green hills and fruit fields surrounding Salem, its exposed position and elegance are a fitting setting for the committees that convene here, working for the good of the community at large. A full-height glass-façade, high ceilings and elegant wooden panels on the walls: in these surroundings, the Thonet S 60 VST cantilever chairs covered in bordeaux red nappa leather make quite a statement.

“The furniture’s unobtrusive design fits perfectly into the building structure and pays homage to it by picking out the colour of the red clinker-brick walls,” explains Tina Wallbaum from the retail partner Bihler Möbelkonzepte. In the town hall’s conference rooms, the design team opted for the stackable S 60 VST cantilever chair – some with the bordeaux red cover and some with black leather seat and backrest.
