Thonet 118 SPF chair features in restaurant at Hotel Schloss Waldeck

High above Lake Edersee in North Hesse sits Schloss Waldeck, a picture-perfect castle that dates back to the 12th century. This once strategic fortress has been extensively renovated and transformed into a hotel complete with museum, spa and wellness centre, and a range of dining options. One of these, the Alte Turmuhr serves fine cuisine against the backdrop of its exquisitely designed interior within the castle grounds.

Dark wooden beams line the restaurant’s ceiling, creating a beautiful contrast with its sandstone walls. The dining chairs – Thonet’s 118 SPF and 118 SP – serve as a contemporary counterpoint to the ancient walls. Designed by Sebastian Herkner, the 118 is a classic wooden chair that affords a subtle elegance to any dining table or restaurant. 

Here, in the Alte Turmuhr restaurant, the 118 has been selected in a stained-black beech wood version with upholstery in a vibrant terracotta hue, reminiscent of bricks or clay with an earthy, natural appearance. The Thonet chairs provide colourful accents and lend a gentle warmth to the room, which is otherwise decorated in more muted shades. Hotel manager Andreas Engelhoven is extremely happy with the restaurant’s new seating: “The chairs are not only visually appealing; they are also exceptionally comfortable – our guests love them. And, of course, they feature the high-quality Thonet craftsmanship that we know and love.”
