Design icons meet industrial chic: Thonet furniture featured in newly remodelled CALIDA Group office in Bruckmühl, Germany

The CALIDA Group has set up its new office in a former wool-blanket factory in the Bavarian town of Bruckmühl. The aim of the remodel was to create a warm, open and communicative working space that prioritises employees’ wellbeing. Designed by rwh raumweltenheiss in Kirchheim, the architectural concept combines structural elements from the old factory with contemporary interior design. This has created a space that reflects the CALIDA company culture while also responding to the requirements of New Work.

Today, the new CALIDA Group offices comprise a variety of working spaces that reflect the needs of the company’s approximately 200 employees. These areas are spread out over two storeys and include coworking spaces, conference and meeting rooms, kitchens, a canteen and social areas. Each area was carefully designed to promote communication, teamwork and dialogue as well as to provide quiet spaces for focused individual work.

The conference rooms feature oak tables from the Thonet 1500 range. They are available in two different heights (74 cm and 105 cm), making them the perfect solution when employees want to be able to switch between sitting and standing, a frequent requirement in today’s workplaces. This creates a casual space, ideal for spontaneous meetings or relaxed conversation during breaks. The aluminium or wooden legs, which are attached to the traverse at a 45-degree angle, lend the tables both stability and elegance. Media modules and cables can be seamlessly integrated into the 1500 table, making it perfect for meetings and conferences.

The table is surrounded by a regiment of Thonet’s S 32 N cantilever chairs, with the chosen stained black beech elements, dark-black frame and black mesh in the seat and backrest providing a particularly refined look. The S 32 is a classic chair that is at home in a variety of different settings. It looks equally good in uncompromisingly modern interiors as in more eclectic spaces featuring diverse elements from different decades and styles, for example here in the old wool-blanket factory in Bruckmühl.

For the social areas and the kitchens at CALIDA, the designers selected the Thonet S 43 and S 43 F cantilever chairs by Mart Stam – renowned for their simplicity and functionality. Their minimalist design and combination of tubular steel frame and bentwood pieces in the seat and backrest make them timeless classics. Whether in an all-black version or in a warm oak, the chairs are a perfect match for the CALIDA Group’s new modern-yet-cosy office space.
