Work before play
Students living at BaseCamp Dortmund during their studies can make use of the building’s various study rooms, both for focused self-study and for lively group meetings. The tables in the 1140 collection, designed for Thonet by Werner Aisslinger, are the perfect multi-functional furniture for these settings.
The 1140 is an exceptionally stable wooden table with a clear design. Thanks to its intelligent connecting elements on the corners, it does not require a stabilising frame. The tabletop is self-supporting and, even in longer versions up to 2.4 m, it only requires four legs, which attach directly to the tabletop using an innovative connector. Its smart, frameless design means that chairs with armrests also fit snugly under the table. All of the BaseCamp locations, including Dortmund, feature custom-made editions of the 1140 table with connecting elements in a vibrant orange colour.
The table has a light, understated appearance and yet is exceptionally stable. So stable, in fact, that Werner Aisslinger himself confidently claimed, “you can dance on it”. And what could be a better fit for student housing!
